Erschreckende Zahlen? (Hat sich Sun bei CoolThreads verrechnet?)
Ich will den Artikel mal nicht weiter kommentieren bis ich auch noch ein paar Zahlen habe, aber hier ein Zitat:
Olde Faithful costs $3,595. At the "sweet spot", she uses 157.2 watts of power, which costs us $26.20/month in power and cooling costs, or $314.40 per year. Total cost for 1 year? $3,909.40. 5 years? $5167. 10 years? $6739. CoolThreads costs $8,395 for a similar model with 4GB. Alas, that includes a hard disk which we don't need, so let's knock $100 off the price, assuming Sun would custom build them for us. At the "sweet spot", she uses 180 watts, but lets give her the benefit of the doubt and assume she's 20% more power efficient than Olde Faithful when she only has 4GB of RAM and no HDD. That'd bring it to 125.76 watts (less than Olde Faithful when idle), which would cost us $20.96/month in power and cooling, or $251.52 per year. Total cost for 1 year? $8546.52. 5 years? $9552.60. 10 years? $10,810.20.
